The extension ofElden Ring introduces a new region, called The Realm of Shadows. Some locations are secret and require instructions to reach them. This is the case of the terrifying Abyssal Woods.
Shadow of the Erdtree, first and only DLCElden Ring, welcomes players to a new region: the Realm of Shadows. By FromSoftware’s admission, it is of a size comparable to the very first area of the base game (which is false, it is much larger). It of course has its share of secret areas – like the northeast.
Among the places you might miss is the Abyssal Woods, a place so scary that you won’t be able to use your spectral horse (which is terrified) there. This is particularly where you will come face to face with seemingly harmless creatures, but which you will not be able to hit normally. Elden Ring loves teleporters
To access the Abyssal Woods, you must first go to a specific area of Occult Altus, located near the Black Castle (a very important labyrinthine fortress in the DLC). If you’ve played FromSoftware’s previous games, then you know that the Japanese studio loves teleporters. So there is one in the Black Castle, which is a little hidden.

The easiest way to get there is from the Grace Site titled “Warehouse, ground floor”. Once you arrive, turn around to take the large elevator behind. You will normally come across one of Messmer’s warriors. Exit the building and go to your left, you will normally see flaming boats and you will be attacked by small enemies.

On the side of the building, there is a well-hidden ladder. Go down and continue your journey until you arrive in a narrow place. You will eventually come across a coffin which will send you to the “castle watering hole” (be careful there is a fire giant among the corpses).
You haven’t quite arrived at the Abyssal Woods yet. You will first have to go down the river of recluses, riding your spectral mount. You will go upstream then downstream until you arrive at the Village of Flies (be careful, there is a reception committee). There will come a time when you can descend into a very dark place, where the Catacombs of Black Light are located. You will need to complete this dungeon to enter the Abyssal Woods. Good luck once you arrive in this forest which is really not welcoming.
