Elden Ring is too complicated? Miyazaki responds to criticism

Elden Ring way too complicated? This is the question that a good part of the players of the latest from FromSoftware are currently asking. It is true that the game was perceived much more “nice” with the players by offering campfires (the vanished graces) much more often, an open world and an escape mount. But let’s not forget that the developers of FromSoftware are not really choirboys

FromSoftware too demanding?

Many nervous breakdowns are at the origin of the mechanics imposed by the studio. Indeed, FromSoftware is widely known for creating demanding games, which do not reach a large part of the population, because failure and patience are the hallmarks of Souls. With Elden Ring, we are faced with several small compromises that have raised the game to its current success. A part of the community finds that the flexibility is not there enough, so Hidetaka Miyazaki wished to apologize for players who feel duped.

If death is to be more than a mark of failure, how can it be given meaning? How to make death pleasant? I apologize to anyone who thinks there is too much to overcome in my games. I just want there to be as many players as possible who are able to feel the joy that comes from overcoming hardship.

We’re always looking to improve, but in our games in particular, difficulty is what gives meaning to the experience. So it’s not something we’re willing to give up just yet. It is our identity.

Torrent and the open world of Elden Ring: a false facility?

Purists keep saying that Elden Ring is a much simpler Souls than the others and in many ways. The first criticism is addressed to the open world which ends the corridors where any enemies can arise. It is true that with Torrent, our faithful steed, it is much easier to escape from dangerous areas, but it is ultimately a penalty for the players.

Indeed, without visiting the many corners of the map or even farming the runes from the monsters that we meet, it will be almost impossible to level up to be ready for a boss battle. Nevertheless, dungeons and other catacombs are still present, offering players scary corridors where out of nowhere a gargoyle can appear to give us a beating.

In addition, the open world has no indication of recommended level, because from one area to another you can be defiled by opponents without having time to say thin (to be polite). Therefore, Torrent is a good compromise to allow players to flee and thus take a few levels to try this hostile region again.

Elden Ring is actually much more accessible, able to reach a wider audience, but is in no way simpler.
