Elden Ring: Malenia should have been much tougher!

If there is a boss dreaded by Elden Ring players around the world, it is Malenia. His fast attacks, and his dance of blades leave the Shardless who face him more than terrified. Although the hero Let Me Solo Her (who kills Malenia for you) comes to the aid of many desperate players, Miquella’s sword remains a nightmare for many of them.

But while it already seems very formidable, a dataminer has just discovered when in one of the first versions of the game (1.0), Malenia was much more so.

The Malenia of version 1.0 is much more dangerous

It’s a curious dataminer by the name of kotn3l who discovered the fiercest Malenia, that of version 1.0. More aggressive, better in defense, and faster, it has undoubtedly been modified by the FromSoftware teams in order not to hurt (too much) the players of Elden Ring.

kotn3l’s investigation revealed many differences with the Malenia we currently know, especially in terms of its key attack, the blade dance.

  • First phase (Miquella’s sword)

Her famous Blade Dance is no longer tied to her hit points, and failing later builds, she no longer needs to be at 80% of his life or less to perform it. Speaking of this attack, it has been changed a lot since version 1.0. Aesthetically, we find here a real dance, with a typical step of Cranes, a Japanese folk dance. We would therefore find in the datamined version the original dance of the blades, faster and more rhythmic. Now here she is called “Sword of Malenia”.

In version 1.0, Miquella’s sword crashes more often the attacks of the Shatterless and is described by kotn3l as “much more aggressive”even during its first phase.

  • Second stage (goddess of putrefaction)

At the start of her second phase, Malenia usually rises into the air, only to fall back, causing a deadly scarlet explosion. In version 1.0, the landing of the goddess of putrefaction is longer, giving the player time to get out of the way. Malenia looks much more different from the other versions in its first phase than in its second, where very few changes are to be observed, out of those seen in his dance of the blades.

Fortunately, therefore, the players did not have to face the Malenia of version 1.0, much more formidable than the sword of Miquella that we had the opportunity to defeat on Elden Ring, at least the one we know. Who knows what FromSoftware’s original plans for the boss were? Maybe she had a central place in the game, and had to be a much bigger obstacle than she already is. What a nightmare !
