Elden Ring returns with new gameplay

This video takes us on an exploration of Castle Morne, a medieval castle occupied by disgusting chimeras which, despite its considerable size, is not one of the six large dungeons of the adventure but rather one of those many mini-dungeons scattered throughout the Underworld and often optional.

In addition to this video, PlayStation Blog has published a new interview with Creative Director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The discussion covers the importance of beta testing, the challenges of creating an open world and the unprecedented freedom it offers players, the influence of Sekiro or even other topics like It Takes Two, his latest favorite date. But we also often evoke the question of difficulty.

With the game now complete, FromSoftware’s president hopes that more people will complete Elden Ring than other games of the same genre. Not that the enemies intend to let it go, but the open world should provide more solutions to overcome a challenge, not to mention the multiplayer which will be easier to use than ever.

In Elden Ring, we didn’t knowingly lower the difficulty of the game, but I think more people will manage to complete it this time. Like I said before, players have this freedom to progress through the universe or come back to a challenge later, and these are things that I think will help them move through the game at a more leisurely pace. . The action is not really the heart of the game. For example, the player is freer to define his approach against bosses in the open world and how he uses stealth in various situations. We even reduced the number of obstacles to overcome to enjoy it in multiplayer. I hope players will appreciate this idea of receiving help from others. It’s thanks to all these little things that I think more people will be able to beat the game this time around.“, explains Hidetaka Miyazaki.

And while producer Yasuhiro Kitao estimates that players can complete Elden Ring in about 30 hours if played in a straight line, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s greatest wish is that future explorers of Underworld take their time. “I would like new players not to put pressure on themselves and to understand that they can approach the game at their own pace. I don’t want to force them to choose a particular style or path, I want them to be able to enjoy the freedom we give them. I realize that we offer games with a rather high level of difficulty, but they are designed to give you a powerful sense of accomplishment when you have completed these challenges. Still, new players need not worry about this difficulty“, he adds.

This time around in Elden Ring, we’ve made several options available to players so they can face the toughest situations and use their ingenuity to defeat enemies and bosses. They can come back later if they are at an impasse, so they will always be free in their progress and they won’t have to work on the same problem over and over again. They will thus be able to reflect calmly on how to approach it, always at their own pace.
