There is a little trick to pausing Elden Ring. We explain the manipulation to you, knowing that it is not so easy to use in the heat of the moment.
You are facing a terrible boss in Elden Ring, the same one that has been killing you for a good evening. You proudly reach the third of his life bar feeling that this time it’s the right one. Suddenly, an emergency (your cat asking for food or doing something stupid, for example). You then want to pause the game — but that’s not possible. You lose the fight. You curse the game. You throw your rage controller. You are frustrated. Never mind.
Like other FromSoftware games, the ability to put Elden Ring on pause is not allowed. When you go to the inventory or the interface, the game continues to run: you then risk passing from life to death simply by wanting to change your equipment. In most games, you can suspend time. And, in fact, there is a somewhat hidden trick to be able to do this in Elden Ring.
How do I pause in Elden Ring?
This discovery is signed Iron Pineapple, a videographer who specializes in FromSftware games. He shared manipulation in a tweet posted on March 8. Numerama tried it on PlayStation 5 and miraculously it works perfectly.
Here’s the procedure to follow :
- Go to the main menu;
- Go to inventory;
- Go to ‘Menu explanations’.
Please note that this is not a very fast manipulation: it requires pressing several buttons. In this case, on a PlayStation console : Options, Down, Down, X, touchpad, Down, Down and X. Note also that it is absolutely necessary to click on ‘Explanations of the menu’. The other tabs in the ‘Help’ sub-menu do not pause the game.
Suffice to say that this little trick to know can sometimes be difficult to use. If, by chance, you need it during a boss, be sure to get far enough away from him to have time to press the different keys.
Very soon after the launch ofElden Ring, pausing has become such an important issue that modders have added the feature for the PC version. It is available on the Nexus Mods portal since February 27.
