Election dispute – Somalia prime minister to be suspended – News

  • Mohamed Hussein Roble, the Prime Minister of Somalia, is due to be suspended.
  • The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, announced this on Monday.
  • The reason for this are allegations of corruption against the prime minister.

The President’s office has accused the Prime Minister of interfering in an investigation into a fraudulent land acquisition on his part. As long as the investigation was ongoing, the Prime Minister would therefore no longer have any powers.

Both sides reproached for election delay

There are constant tensions between President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmajo, and his Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble. The background to this is a dispute over the current parliamentary elections: the President and Prime Minister of the country in the Horn of Africa are accusing each other of delaying them.

The elections began on November 1st and should have been closed on December 24th – but so far not even ten percent of the parliamentary seats have been filled.
