The canton of Uri will be governed purely by citizens for the next four years. CVP-the center gets a majority.

It’s a bitter election Sunday for the SP. She is no longer represented on the Uri government council. Your current government councilor Dimitri Moretti failed in the second round of voting on Sunday. With 5,032 votes, Moretti received the fewest votes of the three candidates who ran in the second round for the two remaining vacant seats in the government council.

The social voice is now missing in the Uri government.

The 51-year-old had been in office as security director since 2016 and held the only left-wing seat in the seven-member Uri government. The canton of Uri will therefore be governed by a purely bourgeois government for the next four years.

Dimitri Moretti’s disappointment is great: “I’ve done a good job for eight years now and launched and carried out some important projects,” he tells SRF. The voters would obviously have seen things differently now.

“The social voice is now missing in the Uri government,” says Dimitri Moretti. Now other members of the government would have to take this perspective. He doesn’t yet know what will happen to him personally from the summer onwards. “I don’t have a plan B.”

CVP-the center now has four seats

However, this second round of voting represents a success for the CVP-die Mitte. Your candidate Hermann Epp makes it into government. Epp made 6,082 votes. The 49-year-old from Silenen is now ensuring that the party has the majority in the Uri government council. The CVP-the Center had already lost its three seats at the beginning of March.

The third candidate, Georg Simmen (FDP), was elected with 6,895 votes. The 50-year-old defended the FDP seat that had become vacant due to Roger Nager’s resignation. Simmen is a lawyer and district administrator and lives in Realp. Thanks to his election, Urserental continues to be represented in the cantonal government.

The previous government councilors Urs Janett (FDP), Christian Arnold (SVP), Urban Camenzind (CVP-die Mitte) and Daniel Furrer (CVP-die Mitte) were elected in the first round. In addition, Céline Huber was able to defend the seat of the retiring government councilor Beat Jörg for the CVP-die Mitte.
