The incumbent Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic’s HDZ party is the strongest political force in Croatia’s parliamentary elections.
However, the HDZ failed to secure an absolute majority to form a government.
This is shown by projections based on preliminary partial results.
After counting over 95 percent of the ballot papers, the HDZ and its four allies have 60 of the 151 parliamentary seats in the Sabor, the Croatian parliament. That divided them central election commission in Zagreb with.
According to these figures, the left-liberal opposition alliance Rijeke Pravde (Rivers of Justice) came in second place with 42 mandates. The alliance is close to President Zoran Milanovic.
The right-wing nationalist party Domovinski Pokret (Homeland Movement) took third place with 14 mandates.
Voter turnout was very high: just two and a half hours before the polls closed, it was 50.6 percent. It was therefore higher than the overall turnout in the previous 2020 elections, which was 46.9 percent at the time.
