  • The ex-President of the USA, Donald Trump, will not be admitted to the primaries for the US presidential elections in the US state of Maine.
  • This was decided by the state’s highest electoral authority.
  • He was also previously expelled from Colorado State.
  • The decision can still be taken further.

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows justified the decision by saying that Trump had incited an insurrection over the storming of the Capitol. He spread false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Supporters of the then-elected President Donald Trump stormed the headquarters of the US Parliament in Washington on January 6, 2021. Congress met there to formally confirm Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election. Trump had previously incited his supporters in a speech with the lie that he had been deprived of a victory through massive election fraud.

Last week, the state of Colorado excluded the ex-president from the primaries. An appeal was lodged against this. The decision in Maine can also be moved forward.

Things are different in the state of Michigan. There the Supreme Court declined to address the issue. Therefore, the lower court’s decision remains in effect. This decided that Trump’s participation in the primaries was not a matter for the state court.

Trump’s opponents in several states are citing the 14th Amendment to the Federal Constitution, which dates back to the Civil War. It prohibits people from holding office if they have committed “insurrection or rebellion” after taking an oath to the United States. Trump’s critics see his involvement in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 as proven.
