The brand is back in force with a new version of its 3008 SUV, this time in a completely electric version. A modernized design, a refreshed interior, all on a new platform allowing the implementation of three different electric motors.

The 3008 is a real success for Peugeot, with more than 6,000 models sold in France in 2022 and more than 36,000 examples since its release. Even though sales have slowed, it remains a must-have for the brand. If a hybrid version has already been available for 2 years, Peugeot had to offer a version that completely abandoned thermal power to compete with other electric SUVs like that of Ford recently. It is now done, and on Tuesday September 11, this new arrival was officially presented to the public. So welcome to the E-3008!

A known but reinterpreted design

Aware that the overall design of their SUV had won over the public, the Peugeot designers did not risk disrupting everything. The fundamentals have therefore been preserved. It will keep the stocky silhouette we know, but will now take the form of a coupe SUV, with a receding rear leaning towards a fastback style. The grille has also been revised, displaying a very sophisticated appearance and supporting a new light signature provided by refined LED headlights.

Far from being purely functional, this new design has been worked on to give more efficient aerodynamics to the E-3008. Even though it is larger than its predecessor, its drag coefficient (Cx) was improved to reach a rather satisfactory threshold of 0.28. It’s always good to take for autonomy.

Under the hood, something new too

With the E-3008, Peugeot is also introducing a new platform, the STLA Medium, which can offer, according to Turbo, three different electrical configurations. The first will be equipped with a 157 kW (210 hp) engine and a 73 kWh battery which will give it a range of 525 km. This version will have a four-wheel drive variant, with an identical battery, but a second motor which will increase the power to 320 hp. Finally, a third configuration will be equipped with a single 170 kW (230 hp) motor and will be able to travel up to 700 km thanks to its very large 98 kWh battery. An autonomy which greatly exceeds that of the Tesla Model Y Grande Autonomie, one of its competitors.

Charging is also changing: the battery can go from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. This is a good score, and it will help you not wait too long during long journeys.

A cabin also improved

The dashboard has also evolved, with a brand new 21-inch panoramic screen. This will control most of the vehicle’s features. Baptized Panoramic I-Cockpit, it aims to be more modern and practical than its predecessors. The heated steering wheel, massaging and ventilated seats will also appear in the more upscale version, the GT.

The space on board will also be rather generous, since the trunk volume reaches 520 liters and up to 1,480 liters if the rear seats are folded. A rather satisfactory result for an electric SUV.

For now, we will have to wait until November to find out the official prices. It is at the same time that orders for the E-3008 will open, and the first buyers will be able to put their hands on it in February 2024. Given the success and autonomy of its electric 208, we can expect a warm welcome to Peugeot’s new SUV.
