Electric car 100 euros per month: rentals will accelerate

Nearly 35,000 electric cars for around a hundred euros per month should be rented under social leasing, and the government wants to increase the pace, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Bchu, said on Monday.

Christophe Bchu, who is responsible for Transport, handed over the keys to one of the first rented vehicles, a Peugeot e-208, to a young student, in a dealership in Joinville-le-Pont (Seine-et-Marne).

90,000 French people wanted to be kept informed and 35,000 were contacted by dealers to integrate this system open to the most modest French people and traveling more than 8,000 km per yearspecified Christophe Bchu.

We talk with the dealers. We are in the process of consolidating these availabilities

The initial volume of 25,000 rentals was established taking into account the availability of vehicles, recalled the minister. We talk with the dealers. We are in the process of consolidating these availabilities, he stressed.

We had planned for 20,000 cars, we are in the process of seeing what happens next, confirmed Sandrine Bouvier of Stellantis, the group that owns Peugeot and Citron. We could go at least double that, particularly on models other than the Peugeot 208, at Opel, Fiat or Jeep. The offer attracts young people who drive used cars, or families who go electricwith SUVs like the Opel Mokka or the Peugeot 2008, highlighted Sandrine Bouvier.

147 euros per month for the first car

Today’s customer, Rim Elotreuch, 21 years old, physiotherapy student, chose an e-208 (assembled in Slovakia) with a few options which increase the bill to 147 euros per month (vertigo blue paint, 10-inch screen) to replace her 208 thermal. Employed in a Leclerc in the region, she will be able to recharge at work.

In this Peugeot dealership, social leasing represents 80% of sales at the start of the year and has enlivened the last open days, underlines Antoine Gregori, sales director for new vehicles at the dealership.

Macron cars

This device of Macron cars (in reference to the Macron buses launched in 2025, Editor’s note), I am convinced that it will make babies among our neighbors, said Christophe Bchu. Everywhere, we are asking the question of how to create ecology that is good for the plant and good for purchasing power.

Social leasing. Who? How much? For how long?

THE social leasinglaunched in December 2023, is a system for rental with purchase option (LOA) less than 100 euros per month for city cars, not including added car insurance, and 150 euros for family cars (excluding insurance and maintenance), reserved for people whose reference tax income is less than 15,400 euros, driving more than 8,000 km per year or live more than 15 km from their place of work. Only vehicles built in France or Europe are eligible for this bonus. Without initial contribution, the rental is planned for 3 years, renewable once. The State finances each rental up to a maximum of 13,000 euros.
