Electric cargo motorcycle introduced: Like a cargo bike, only much faster

ELECTRIC SCOOTER

In many places, cargo bikes are part of the cityscape. At the EICMA motorcycle trade fair in Milan, the PNY Ponie, an electric cargo motorcycle with plenty of storage space, was presented.

The idea seems obvious, but it has not yet been implemented: e-cargo motorcycles could carry more cargo than e-bikes or e-scooters. At the same time, they are more maneuverable and narrower than a car or small delivery vehicles.

PNY has now presented the Ponie P2 model at the EICMA motorcycle trade fair currently taking place in Milan. The unusually long two-wheeler can transport more than 120 kilograms in a 400 liter storage space. The capacity is comparable to that of a small car trunk. Additional storage space can be achieved using the generous luggage rack.

The hub motor located in the rear offers an output of 4,000 watts. Enough power to accelerate the electric motorcycle to a top speed of 100 km/h. The manufacturer specifies the range of the 6.7 kWh battery as up to 150 kilometers.

The Ponie’s other features include an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and a seven-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay. In a lockable glove compartment you will find USB sockets to charge your gadgets.

The e-motorcycle can be driven with the A1 driving license. Nothing is known yet about price and availability. Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. Also presented at EICMA was the NIU XQi3, a lightweight street-legal dirt e-bike.
