The year 2024 is off to a flying start in the field of electric cars. Manufacturers reacted en masse to the tightening of ecological bonus rules by lowering the prices of their models, sometimes by tens of thousands of euros. What will make you fall in love? Tell us !
Even if so many electric cars have never been sold as in 2023, the observation remains the same: they still cost more to buy than a thermal car (even if they become more economical when we take taking into account the cost of use). To make matters worse, the French government has decided to tighten the rules for access to the vintage 2024 ecological bonus (including the introduction of an environmental score) and to lower the amount from 5,000 euros to 4,000 euros.
We could therefore fear a drop in the number of sales, but manufacturers reacted en masse: this week, no less than ten models saw their prices drop, while Renault presented its electric Scénic at record prices.
German, Chinese, French: no jealousy!
In detail, Volkswagen is doing well by completely reorganizing its range: its compact ID.3 can lose up to 6,500 euros, its large ID.7 sedan reduces its price by almost 8,900 euros, while its two ID SUVs. 4 and ID.5 lose almost 15,000 euros while gaining a few kilometers of autonomy.
At MG, prices are falling by 4,000 euros across the entire range to compensate for the loss of the ecological bonus, while the Dacia Spring, also affected by this loss, is dropping its prices by 2,400 euros to once again become the cheapest electric car In France.
As for Renault, its new electric Scénic E-Tech starts at under 40,000 euros excluding bonuses with a fairly spectacular price/equipment/autonomy ratio. The Mégane E-Tech is not to be outdone and loses 4,000 euros, enough to make it start at 30,000 euros once the bonus is deducted.
Nothing to make you fall in love
This challenges a lot of preconceived ideas. What if these significant price drops made you fall in love? This was the question in our survey last week, but a majority of you (60.45%) responded that an electric car remains too expensive at the moment. For Al Caponn who commented on his response, “the sale price of motor vehicles is a real madness and a big scam“.
However, this price drop does not leave you indifferent. A small quarter of respondents (24.27%) find that this is an additional argument that could tip the scales. It’s time to take stock.
Finally, 12.10% of people who voted indicated that they wanted to take advantage of this price drop while 3.18% changed their original choice after this drop. So, despite inflation and the economic crisis, there are always buyers.
