Electric cars from Jaguar and Land Rover will be produced in Europe, with a Chinese base

The shift to electric has already started for Jaguar. The British manufacturer will no longer present thermal models, and a range of 100% electric cars is arriving for 2025. At the same time, the brand is honing its weapons and intends to partner with a renowned Chinese manufacturer for its electric cars.

Jaguar is a manufacturer that is almost no longer talked about at the moment, and for good reason. The manufacturer has deserted the media scene for several years now, and only a few special series of already existing thermal models, like the fabulous Jaguar F-Type for example, are still talked about by the manufacturer.

The brand made the choice to no longer launch new products until 2025. Why 2025? Quite simply because it is from this date that the British manufacturer will enter a new era, that of the electric car. So there was obviously the Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV which arrived in 2018 and which pulled the rug out from under the Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQC and other BMW iX3s, but within two years, it will be a any new generation of electric cars that will arrive.

Chinese manufacturers have gained ground

Designing a car from A to Z is expensive, very expensive in fact, and partnerships and other synergies are now legion to reduce costs. And in this area, it is Chinese manufacturers who are leading the way. Volkswagen has partnered with Xpeng, Audi with SAIC and Stellantis with LeapMotor. It is also a way for European manufacturers to make a comeback in a Chinese market where they have clearly lost ground in recent years.

In the landscape of Chinese manufacturers, Chery is undoubtedly one of those making the least noise today. However, the brand unveiled last year a platform called E0X which today equips two products sold in China : the Exeed Sterra ES sedan and the Sterra ET SUV. If you’ve never seen them, that’s normal, but you may soon be able to see them given the fact that they should arrive on the Old Continent this year under the Exlantix brand.

And it seems a long time ago where Chinese manufacturers had little mastery in terms of engineering. Just look at BYD with its 3.0 platform and its Blade batteries. And in fact, Chery was largely inspired by BYD for its platform, notably with an 800 volt battery integrated in Cell-to-chassis. There is also a centralized electronic architecture, a double wishbone at the front and a multi-link rear axle (like on certain European sports cars) or even four-wheel steering.

Great new features coming from Jaguar, but also from Land Rover

And obviously, these characteristics really pleased Jaguar, which is obviously looking for a premium platform given its positioning in Europe. Jaguar is already associated with Chery for its production in China, and even if the manufacturer has not yet made anything official, this platform should equip the brand’s future electric cars.

Jaguar’s big comeback should take place in 2025, but a model based on the Chery platform could however arrive as early as this year. It will be a sedan or an SUV derived from the two models mentioned above and intended solely for the Chinese market. Enough to keep the brand alive before the arrival of several real new products.

With electric, Jaguar intends to move up a gear and enter into direct competition with brands like Aston Martin and Bentley. From 2025 to 2027, the brand should launch a new model every year. The first will be a four-door GT that already promises to be the most powerful car Jaguar has ever built.

We are already talking about an 800 volt architecture guaranteeing rapid recharges, but also a range of more than 700 km. The year that follows, it will surely be the turn of an SUV version to appear, based on the same bases.

As Jagaur is part of the Jaguar Land Rover group, it is not yet known whether the British luxury 4×4 manufacturer will benefit from Chery’s platform for its future electric models. Electricity is also starting this year for Land Rover, with a 100% electric Range Rover arriving at the end of the year.

Land Rover is also clear: the electric Range Rover will be the model “the quietest and most refined ever created”. Obviously, the silence of the electric motor will help, but an active noise cancellation system in the cabin will also be included. Like in the Tesla Model S for example.

Performance will not be outdone, since this electric version is announced as being “ as efficient as the V8 version », while knowing that the current V8 version goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Finally, all-terrain capabilities will be retained with the ability to cross lookouts 850 mm deep. As one might say, it promises!
