Electric cars: the top 10 sales in 2021

VIDEO // It’s time to take stock of electric car sales in France over the year 2021. The Tesla Model 3 remains the undisputed star of the category, ahead of the Renault Zoé and the Peugeot e-208.

The French automobile market remained stable in 2021 compared to 2020, a year marked by the health crisis linked to Covid-19, but fell by 25.1% compared to 2019, according to raw figures provided by the Automotive Platform (PFA ) and AAA Data. “To the health crisis was added the shortage of semiconductors, which led to a significant drop in production, and registrations show in the end only a derisory increase of 0.5% for a total of 1,659 008 units“over the year, analyzed the firm AAA Data.

But beyond these bad figures, we must also see the gradual and sustainable transformation of the market, in particular following the objectives of reducing CO emissions.2 fixed by Brussels. “Electricity reached a 15% market share in December 2021, not far from diesel which continues to decline and only represents 17% of sales, against 71% in 2009!“, continues the firm. 100% electric cars now represent 165,106 units, or 9.8% of market share. They are essential against plug-in hybrids, which accumulate over the twelve months of the year 141,012 registrations, or 8.5% of market share.

Note the underperformance of Tesla’s Model Y, which led to the 10e place in the top 10 for the month of September, with 430 units sold, then returned to the top 10 monthly in November, with 642 models registered. It does not appear in the top 10 for December and does not enter the top 100 of the best-selling cars in France for the year. With its price and its autonomy, the Model 3 stole the show …
