Electric cars: the top 20 sales in April 2022, the Fiat 500 in the firmament

It’s time to take stock of sales of electric cars in France in April 2022. Surprise with the Fiat 500, which takes first place, followed by the Dacia Spring and the Peugeot e-208.

For the 11th consecutive month, sales of new cars in France fell by 22.6% in April 2022 (20 working days) compared to April 2021, with 108,733 units sold.

According to NGC-Data, which publishes the figures each month, the causes remain the same, namely the shortage of semiconductors, the economic crisis, rising energy prices and the war in Ukraine.

If diesel models continue to collapse (-48.1%) like petrol cars (-33.5%), electrified engines are doing well, especially with hybrids (+18.7% ) and electric (+32.7%), whose market share now reached 11.7% in April 2022 with 12,692 units.

In the 2022 quarter, 56,199 new electric private vehicles (PDM 11.9%) were registered, an increase of 40.3% compared to 2021 over the same period.

Fiat 500, Dacia Spring and Peugeot e-208, the city cars in power

Italy sits in the firmament with the – well-deserved – consecration of the Fiat 500, which occupies first place on the podium of 100% electric cars with 1,737 copies sold.

The Dacia Spring follows with 1,568 units, then the Peugeot e-208 with 1,375 units. Note that the city cars are full with the Renault Zoe (1052 copies) and Twingo (948 copies) which point to 4th and 5th place respectively.

Note the good performance of the MG Marvel R (20th – 105 units), closely followed by the Renault Megane E-Tech (104 units), whose deliveries have started.
