Electric mobility: equipment manufacturers warn of insufficient infrastructure – 03/22/2023 at 11:14

(AOF) – “Almost all automotive suppliers (98%) fear that the efforts and investments made in favor of climate-neutral mobility will be compromised by the lack of charging and refueling infrastructure”. This is stated by Clepa, the lobby of European equipment manufacturers, in a press release published today. They ask that the investments be “accompanied by a sufficient public effort”.

Clepa cites a McKinsey study that the rapid adoption of electric vehicles will require a public infrastructure of at least 3.4 million charging points by 2030. Based on this target, the current deployment of the network recharging must be four times faster than it is today in EU countries to meet the needs of future vehicles.

The industry’s long-term investment capabilities are coming under increasing pressure and 37% of OEMs are reducing investment as companies do their utmost to maintain research and development budgets. If the automotive supply industry is moving towards climate-neutral mobility, it needs government support and investment to ensure the necessary enabling conditions are in place. Without this, the industry’s efforts could be undermined and the transformation of green mobility could be jeopardized, believes Clepa.
