Toyota remains very well represented in the ranking of the best sales of the year, while Tesla is showing more and more performance.

Which car models sold the best in 2022? The automotive industry specialist Focus 2 Move publishes its annual ranking, which sees Tesla closing in on the podium.

Toyota still very dominating

The big winner of this list is the Toyota Corolla, which dominates car sales for another year. It is, by far, the most popular vehicle in the world with 1.12 million units sold over the past year, down a small 2.2% from its 2021 scores.

The Japanese manufacturer also took second place thanks to its RAV4 SUV, the hybrid version of which particularly attracted consumers. 871,220 Toyota RAV4s found buyers, down 13.7% from the previous year.

The podium is completed by the Ford F-Series and its 786,303 sales. The pick-up remains a safe bet for drivers in North America, where it carries out most of its orders. It is down 8.8% year-on-year.

Tesla shows the muscles

In the Top 7 best-selling cars of 2022, only two saw their sales grow, and they both belong to the same manufacturer: Tesla. The Model Y takes fourth position with 758,792 vehicles acquired. It rose 15 places in the ranking thanks to an insolent growth of 88.5%.

The other representative of Tesla is the Model 3. The 4% increase in sales allows it to reach 596,000 shipments, which gives it the seventh position. Between the two Teslas, we have the Toyota Camry (675,000 sales, -3%) and the Honda CR-V (601,000, -18%).

To complete the Top 10, the Hyundai Tucson peaked at 565,100 sales (+1.2%), the Toyota Hilux at 564,759 (+2.7%) and the Ram Pick-up at 545,423 (-15.4% ). The most impressive progressions are to be credited to the Chinese company BYD, the BYD Song moving from 85ᵉ to 14ᵉ place and the BYD Qin Plus, from 120ᵉ to 26ᵉ position.
