Electricity price: your monthly bill increases discreetly

For several days, customers of Total Energies, Engie and even EDF have been receiving letters and other emails. So far, nothing unusual except that as spotted by The Internet user, a line was added in some people. This is a note that informs of the increase in the electricity bill. And this is not an annual regularization.

Is your monthly bill increasing? here’s why

Most customers pay a monthly bill with a fixed rate of estimated consumption based on the previous year. In general, the amount does not change one iota before the annual regularization. Except that with direct debit, the law authorizes suppliers to modify this amount as they wish. However, the customer must be informed of this change by post or email, one month before the modification.

Total Energies, Engie or even EDF are within their rights if the following line has been added to your invoice: “Following the analysis of your latest consumption statements and/or following the evolution of the prices of your offer, we suggest that you adjust your monthly payments to €XX including tax/month from now on” or “Following a request from you or the modification of the meter reading date by the distributor”.

It is possible to refuse this increase

However, it is possible to refuse the increase in the monthly amount withdrawn. Simply contact your energy supplier’s customer service to let them know. However, without action on your part, the increase is applied.

However, keep in mind that this increase is justified in particular by preventing your annual regularization bill from being too high. The price of electricity increased on February 1 by 9%. Energy suppliers therefore take this increase into account to justify the small additional line on your bill.
