For some time now, hardly a week goes by without an online service increasing its prices. Today it’s Electronic Arts’ turn to increase EA Play subscriptions.

It’s not just streaming or SVoD platforms that are always demanding more from their subscribers. As Electronic Arts and its EA Play show, video game subscription services are also increasing the price of their packages. The firm declares that this increase will only take place from May 10, but the new prices (for newcomers, we imagine) are already displayed on its official website.

The bill increases for EA Play

Here are the new prices:

  • EA Play: 5.99 euros per month or 39.99 euros per year (compared to 3.99 or 24.99 euros);
  • EA Play Pro: 16.99 euros per month or 119.99 euros per year (compared to 14.99 or 99.99 euros).

This is therefore an increase of 2 euros per month for the two packages offered, while with the annual plan, you will have to agree to pay an additional 15 or 20 euros. Remember that in its basic formula, EA Play offers access to certain games from the publisher and 10 hours of games on the most recent titles. EA Play Pro notably increases the number of games available and without time limit.

Towards a new increase in the price of Game Pass?

Finally, remember that PC Game Pass (9.99 euros per month) and Game Pass Ultimate (14.99 euros per month) include access to EA Play at no additional cost. A new increase in the prices of Microsoft’s service is therefore a virtual certainty, even if the last one only dates from September 2023. Between the costly acquisition of Activision Blizzard and the addition of its games (like Diablo IV recently), and this increase in EA Play, Microsoft would not need many more excuses to increase the bill for its subscribers.

Especially since in recent months, the firm has made it clear several times that the level of quality of its service will eventually have to pay for itself, beyond simple inflation. Phil Spencer, the boss of Xbox, declared in particular: “ It is inevitable that the price of Game Pass will increase in the future […]. We believe in providing services that are recognized as providing sufficient value, even as prices increase. »
