Electronic Arts will remove Russian teams from FIFA 22

Electronic Arts has just posted a press release via social networks in which it is indicated that Russian clubs, as well as the Russian national team of FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online will soon be removed. This comes a few days after the exclusion of Russia by the “real” FIFA for the next Football World Cup.

Russians deprived of football in real life and virtually

Following the invasion of Russia in Ukraine, the sanctions of Western countries are increasing, as well as the support of players in the video game industry. However, Electronic Arts is one of the first to sanction via one of its flagship titles. Here is what the publisher says in its press release:

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and, like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.

In line with our FIFA and UEFA partners, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We are also actively evaluating changes to other areas of our games.

We will keep our communities informed of any actions taken and we thank players for their patience while we work on these updates. »

Even if the practice of ice hockey is much less popular with us compared to football, EA Sports has meanwhile taken similar action regarding NHL 22.

For now, most studios and publishers have mainly provided financial support to humanitarian organizations helping Ukraine. Today, the Avalanche studio (JustCause) notably joined the movement.

It is undeniable that the reactions will be linked more and more as the conflict continues. The Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister also launched an appeal earlier in the day, encouraging the main video game companies, Sony and Microsoft in the lead, to cease their activities in Russia.
