Electronics Arts reportedly canceled a Harry Potter MMO years ago

Games Harry potter are now in the hands of Warner Bros. Games but for a while, it’s Electronic Arts who took care of the adaptations of the young wizard. Kim salzer, who worked at EA in the early 2000s as Marketing Director, recently revealed that in addition to the games we got from the publisher, an MMO Harry potter should have seen the light of day, before this one was canceled.

A great missed opportunity

Interviewed by streamer The Real Brandolorian on Twitch then relayed by VGC, Salzer says she was involved in creating an MMO in the Wizarding World for a while. :

We had done all the research, we had built the beta, it was a combined offline / online experience where we would send things to the kids, like prizes, ribbons and stuff like that. We had extensive research, and we were very confident in the success of the project. But he was killed, for lack of a better term, because EA was undergoing changes at that time and they just didn’t know or believe enough that this IP would have a lifespan of more than a year or two..

Bad luck therefore, this project never saw the light of day, even if we can easily imagine what an MMO could have looked like. Harry potter.

We will therefore fall back on Hogwarts Legacy, normally scheduled for 2022, which should offer us a game Harry potter equally ambitious, but more solo oriented.
