Sunday May 15, Elina Svitolina made a joyful revelation to her subscribers. She and her husband, tennis player Gaël Monfils have announced the arrival of a baby girl, scheduled for October.
Elina Svitolina absent from Roland-Garros in 2022: “There are too many things that weigh on me”
It’s a little heartwarming for the young Ukrainian who has seen better days. In his home country, war has been raging for months, thus changing several aspects of his life. The young woman mentioned some of them during an interview with the Figaro. Since the start of the war launched by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, Elina Svitolina had to take a break from tennis.
In effect, it is impossible for the young sportswoman to concentrate on anything else that the situation which endangers his family: “I will not play at Roland-Garros, from May 22 to June 5. There are too many things. There are too many things that weigh on me and my priority at the moment is the safety of my family“, she said. One thing is certain: Elina Svitolina does not intend to return to the field until she is 100% invested in tennis.

In the daily columns, the sportswoman spoke about the actions she carries out daily from Switzerlandto face the war, and to help the Ukrainian people and in particular tennis enthusiasts: “I’m focusing right now on my foundationwhich raises funds to support the children of Ukraine to provide them with a place where they can train and so that they can continue to dream of this sport”she explained.
Gaël Monfils’ wife also confided in part of the family, who did not have the chance to move to Europe to take shelter. Some relatives of the athlete are still stranded in Odessa, amid explosions and constant alarms: “I try to keep in touch with them (…) They are forced to hide and live in the basement every night”she confided. “I can’t even imagine how it must be hard for them psychologically, with this constant worry of not knowing what tomorrow will bring“she continued.
