Elisabeth Moreno pins Emmanuel Macron on parity

In Emmanuel Macron's cabinet, parity is far from being respected. And the Secretary of State in charge of gender equality did not hesitate to point it out to the President.

At the Elysée, Emmanuel Macron is surrounded by thirteen people forming his cabinet. Of these thirteen members, how many are women? Only one: Cécile Geneste, deputy head of cabinet. The other twelve are men. We cannot really speak of respect for parity and even less of exemplarity.

This Sunday, Elisabeth Moreno was the guest of the Grand Jury RTL-LCI-Le Figaro. The Secretary of State for Gender Equality has, in fact, been questioned to find out whether political leaders should not be exemplary on respect for parity. A question whose answer seemed obvious to him: "Well yes. If we preach something so important, we have to set an example, and we discussed it". She thus recounts having reframed Emmanuel Macron by telling him: "Mr. President, you are not setting an example". Her answer to him, she prefers to keep it to herself.

If she pins Emmanuel Macron on the composition of her own cabinet, Elisabeth Moreno nevertheless wishes to defend her other actions. While the President has made gender equality the great cause of the five-year term, she asks: "Have you seen, beyond Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, a President of the Republic who took up this issue of equality between women and men with as much force and vigor as Emmanuel Macron? […] Have you seen a government as equal as this one? 51% of women ", she said. The Secretary of State insisted that many women had "strategic positions", such as Barbara Pompili at the Ecological Transition, Elisabeth Borne at Work, Roselyne Bachelot at Culture and Florence Parly at the Armies.

Apart from this, Elisabeth Moreno acknowledges that, "in our country, it is difficult to give space to women". "It's not going fast enough, we have to go much further", she added, and we can only agree with her on this point.
