Ellen DeGeneres: Talk show fashion gate apologizes to her team

A poisoned working atmosphere is said to prevail behind the scenes of their talk show. Now Ellen DeGeneres comments on the allegations for the first time.

For the first time, the American moderator Ellen DeGeneres (62, "Home") speaks extensively about the allegations of her employees that behind the scenes of her talk show there is a climate of fear and intimidation. In an internal, written address to her employees, which is available in the US magazine "People", she apologized to all employees. She wanted her show to be a place of happiness where everyone could speak out.

However, this is obviously not the case: "I'm sorry. Everyone who knows me knows that it is the opposite of what I hoped for." You also take responsibility for any grievances. Steps have already been taken with the production company Warner Bros. to process the events internally. However, she herself is not able to keep track of things. That is why in the past she had relied on others to do their job in their favor.

It was terrible for Ellen DeGeneres

"That will change now and I am committed to ensuring that this does not happen again," continues DeGeneres. You have understood and feel deep sympathy for all those who feel that they have been treated unfairly or have been disregarded. "The thought that someone of you felt that way is terrible for me," DeGeneres writes. She is happy that she has been made aware of these issues and promises to do her part to prevent this from happening again.

Previously, a current and ten former employees of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" had made serious allegations in conversation with "BuzzFeed News". The official motto of the show "be kind" (in German: be friendly) is a farce in view of the events behind the cameras. The working atmosphere is poisoned, and layoffs have often been given for vain reasons. Racist comments were also made to at least one black woman.

The moderator was not to blame

The exporting producers who are responsible for these working conditions are to blame. DeGeneres herself is not directly to blame, but she would also not take care of her employees or inform herself accordingly at the base. The first criticism was already voiced in April after crew members did not receive any information as to whether the show – and thus their salary payments – would continue during the corona lockdown.

DeGeneres made some episodes during the lockdown from her private villa, but she is said to have hired an external company instead of her own employees. The moderator has not yet commented on these specific allegations, not even in the latest statement.
