Ellen Pompeo indicated once more that she wanted to try something new after “Grey’s Anatomy”. They are drawn to business.

Since 2005, Ellen Pompeo (51) has played the title heroine Dr. Meredith Gray in the hit hospital series “Grey’s Anatomy”. The actress has not made a film since then. If it has her way, it will stay that way. Like them in Podcast “Ladies First with Laura Brown” suggested, Pompeo can well imagine retiring after the end of “Grey’s Anatomy” her acting career.

“I’m not saying I’ll never act again, I could very well, but I’m not particularly excited about the idea of continuing my acting career,” Pompeo admitted on the podcast, when asked about her future. “Even though I haven’t played a million roles, I think I’m done with it.” She no longer feels like waiting all day in her caravan for her to work. “This is for young people!” said the 51-year-old.

Tired of acting already in 2014

As early as 2014, Pompeo had indicated that he would no longer find acting particularly inspiring and that he would devote himself to other tasks after the end of “Grey’s Anatomy”. In 2011 she founded a production company with which she designed series for the “Grey’s” broadcaster ABC. For several years now, Pompeo has been thinking of leaving the hospital series, which would probably mean the end of it. In several interviews over the past few years, she indicated that she had already thought about a worthy deal with the makers.

In 2018, she renewed her contract for two seasons with a significant salary increase that made her the highest-paid series actress with a fee of $ 20 million per season. A decision against professional renewal and one for financial security, as she openly admitted. “For me, a healthy private life is more important than a career”. The actress, who lost her mother when she was four, wanted her three children to have a better life.

Second career as a business woman?

As she said in the podcast interview, Pompeo can imagine a second life as a business woman after “Grey’s Anatomy”. “I’m excited about investing in businesses and starting businesses. This is an area of growth that I’m excited about because I want to use my mind in a different way.” Next up is a separate podcast entitled “Tell Me”.

But when is it ready? It wasn’t until May 2021 that “Grey’s Anatomy” was extended by an 18th season. Despite Pompeo’s repeated churn thoughts, Craig Erwich, head of ABC Entertainment, thinks according to the industry service Deadline already thinking about the future beyond the next season.
