Actor Elmar Wepper (1944-2023) is dead. Several media outlets report this unanimously, citing the TV star’s closest circle of friends and family. According to the “Bild” newspaper, Wepper died on Tuesday morning (October 31st). He was 79 years old. According to the report, the cause of death was heart failure and Wepper “suddenly passed out.”

Elmar Wepper was one of the most famous German actors. He is the younger brother of actor Fritz Wepper (82). The Augsburg native played theater as a teenager and later studied theater studies and German. At first he worked primarily as a theater actor and voice actor. In the 1970s he established himself as a television actor when he succeeded his brother in the series “The Inspector”. Numerous other appearances in films and series followed.

Great success with “Cherry Blossoms – Hanami”

Wepper was also successful with films. In 2008 he was seen in the highly acclaimed film “Cherry Blossoms – Hanami” by Doris Dörrie (68). For the role he received the Bavarian Film Prize in 2007 and the German Film Prize in 2008. He last appeared in front of the camera in 2019 for the sequel “Cherry Blossoms & Demons”. As a voice actor, he lent his voice to US star Mel Gibson (67), among others, for years.

The actor lived in Planegg near Munich. He leaves behind a son, two grandchildren and his wife Anita Schlierf. He married her in South Africa in 2004 after ten years of dating.
