Elon Musk will give banned accounts a second chance Twitterright when the moderation services are at their worst.

Elon Musk will offer a “general amnesty” to suspended accounts on Twitter from next week, opening the door to a return of users who are toxic, disrespectful, harassing, and more generally not respecting the social network’s terms of use. (or at least the old Twitter).

Elon Musk wants everyone to be welcome on Twitter

Elon Musk took to his personal Twitter account to launch a poll, asking the community if he should allow outcasts to return to the platform. The poll totaled more than 3 million votes and largely favored the “ yes which won 72.4% of the vote.

The new owner of Twitter nevertheless specifies that all of the suspended accounts would not be affected by this amnesty. Users who violated the law or conducted blatant spam campaigns would not benefit from Musk’s outstretched hand.

This still suggests that many accounts polluting the service should be able to communicate again on the social network, which is already not known for the calm and benevolence of its members.

The problem of moderation

We can all the more worry about this decision since Twitter has laid off a good part of its staff and has offloaded many service providers. The department linked to moderation has particularly suffered from these staff cuts, and one can fear the combination of a return of suspended accounts and moderation without human resources, softened by the new policy instilled by Elon Musk.

A few days ago, Elon Musk restored Donald Trump’s Twitter account, already following a survey conducted on the platform. The former president of the United States has chosen not to return to the social network for the moment, preferring to focus his communication on Truth Social, the service he launched at the start of the year.

The European Union has already put Twitter under surveillance for the question of respect for privacy, it could also do so in the event of a breach of moderation.
