Elon Musk has the ambition to build a new city in which his employees would live.

The billionaire has new ideas for the employees of several of his companies like SpaceX, Tesla, or The Boring Company. He wants to offer them accommodation not far from Austin, Texas, in a new city.

Elon Musk City

Elon Musk takes root a little more in Texas. After leaving California to set up Tesla’s headquarters in Austin, the businessman simply had the idea of building a new city in this state in the southern United States. According to wall street journal, plans to build 110 accommodations for employees of SpaceX and The Boring Company have already been drawn. Texas employees of Tesla, whose gigafactory is located 30 minutes by car from the location, could also join the adventure.

This real estate complex would be part of the broader framework of the foundation of a city which would be located just under 60 kilometers from Austin, in Bastrop County, and which would take the name of Snailbrook. A Montessori school with 15 places could also see the light of day, while Elon Musk could grant himself the right to establish a certain number of rules for the municipality.

Rent below the market

The project could be an opportunity for employees, who would benefit from rent at very moderate prices. Indeed, the accommodations offered would be available, for a two or a three-room apartment, at a base price of around 800 dollars. The median rent in the locality being on average 2,200 dollars per month, the economy would thus be substantial for the lucky ones selected.

Whether it’s a good idea to be dependent on a single entity for both salary and accommodation remains to be seen. Especially since once dismissed from one of Elon Musk’s companies, the tenant will have to leave his home within 30 days. the ease with which the businessman fires Twitter employees should not reassure everyone!
