Elon Musk

During a visit to Brazil, Tesla boss Elon Musk told reporters that electric cars 100% autonomous from the brand will be available from the summer of 2023. A statement in the vein of what he is used to saying every year, without convincing results however.

Tesla cars are still, in 2022, the subject of many disappointments, whether at the level of Full Self Driving or other on-board components.

Words, now deeds

Elon Musk was in Brazil last Friday to set up a partnership to deploy the internet via Starlink satellites in Amazon regions. He was able to answer questions from local journalists for the occasion. In particular, he was able to talk about Tesla and the future of the company: for Musk, the electric car manufacturer will have 100% autonomous vehicles, so without anyone behind the wheel, within a year.

This isn’t the first time Tesla’s CEO has made such statements and, so far, none have come to fruition. We can cite as an example the time when he declared that a million robot-taxis would be in circulation by the end of the year 2020. These have not yet left the factories and are planned for the year next.

From a purely technical point of view, it is also difficult to give credence to such a statement, as Tesla cars still face many technical problems today. Last February, in particular, the manufacturer had to recall more than 50,000 Tesla vehicles in the United States in order to deactivate the “ roll-stop “, a feature that allows the car not to stop at a stop sign if the conditions are met, but deemed too dangerous by US authorities.
