(Reuters) – Elon Musk announced on his Twitter account on Friday that the social network he has just bought for $44 billion will set up a content moderation council that will bring together “very different points of view”.

The billionaire, who calls himself a champion of “freedom of expression”, added that no decision would be taken on the reinstatement of suspended accounts until the council had met.

Speculation about a possible return to Twitter of Donald Trump, whose account has been suspended since his supporters’ assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2020, has been rife since Elon Musk, who does not hide his closeness to the former President of the United States, unveiled his plan to buy the platform.

The boss of Tesla, who has in the past said he is in favor of less moderation as long as the comments made remain within the framework of the law, did not specify when the Twitter board would be formed.

The midterm elections, which will decide the control of the United States Congress, will take place on November 8.
