Italian jewelry designer and philanthropist Elsa Peretti died at the age of 80 in a village near Barcelona, Spain. Her family announced this in Zurich on Friday evening. Peretti was born in Italy and first made a name for himself as a model in New York and Barcelona in the 1960s. At this time she began to design her first jewelry.
Since 1974 Peretti has worked exclusively for the US jeweler Tiffany. Her works could already be admired in numerous museums during her lifetime, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Since 2000, she also ran a charity. She supported cultural, scientific and educational initiatives and was committed to the defense of human rights.
