Else: an application to teach children reasonable use of screens

Currently available only on iOS devices, Else is a new mobile application created with the aim of teaching young people to use screens sensibly. Taking the form of a parental control type application, Else integrates a protective dimension against the phenomenon of cyberharassment, which affects an increasing number of young people each year.

Redefining the relationship of young people to screens

Unlike a large number of parental control applications on the market, Else offers to sign a symbolic pact between the child and the parent. The installation of the system is also done in the presence of these two parties.

We created Else to redefine the relationship of new generations with these technologies, a burning problem, a social emergency problem, a global issue that affects an entire generation. The consequences are disastrous, including a drop in academic performance, health problems, desocialization and, unfortunately, sometimes much more.

This application shakes up the codes established until now: rather than restricting the child in his discovery of the computer world by imposing rigid limits, Else offers a set of functionalities aimed at teaching him self-control with regard to screens. For this, Else establishes a tracking which compares the time spent on the screen and the time disconnected. The application works on the principle of kindness by displaying break reminders on a regular basis.

Finding help for cyberbullying

However, the application is not limited to managing screen time for children. Based on the premise that 24% of French families are affected by cyberharassment on social networks, Else is the first app to include a direct call button to 3018, a number set up by the French government. Available free of charge from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day of the year, this completely anonymous service allows you to be put in contact with trained listeners who support victims and witnesses of online harassment.
