A very special anniversary for Elton John: It has now been 30 years since he swore off alcohol and drugs.
30 years have passed since Sir Elton John (73, "Tiny Dancer") banned drugs and alcohol from his life. The British singer has now duly celebrated this special anniversary, as he shows on Instagram. John describes the milestone as a "magical day".
Among other things, he received many "lovely" cards and flowers from his sons Zachary (b. 2010) and Elijah (b. 2013), his husband David Furnish (57), friends from an aid program and employees. A large cake in the shape of a "30" can also be seen on one of the published pictures.
If he hadn't stopped, he would be dead
John feels like a "truly blessed man" today. But he also talks about how serious the situation was for him at the time. "If I hadn't finally taken the big step and asked for help 30 years ago, I would be dead." From the bottom of his heart, he would like to thank everyone who "inspired and supported me along the way".
