Heartbreaking update on his health
Elton John has postponed his last tour to 2023 due to an injury. In an interview he now talks about the reasons for his decision and how he feels about it.
Elton John, 74, announced on September 16, 2021 via Instagram that he would have to postpone numerous dates of his farewell tour “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” to 2023. The reason: he “fell awkwardly onto a hard surface” and injured his hip. He was operated on at the beginning of October. In an interview, the “Rocket Man” interpreter gives an update on his state of health and reveals how much this time stresses him.
Elton John: “I’m a recovering alcoholic”
In an interview with “BBC Radio 5 Live” the musician speaks about his past, in which he fought against an alcohol addiction: “I’m a recovering alcoholic, so I have to accept everything that happens. I can’t really do it Change. The only thing I can change is to do something positive. ” Postponing the dates of his “Farewell” tour in Europe and Great Britain was also extremely difficult for him because he “hates disappointing people”.
However, he did not have a choice. This becomes clear when Elton John speaks about the extent of his pain. “I sing for two hours and 45 minutes and I am in pain,” he says. “That’s why I really want to enjoy what I’m doing. It’s my last tour and I want to give 100 percent for my fans, so it was a painful and drawn-out decision. But at the end of the day it got so bad that I fell over am – that was the icing on the cake. “
He wants to do his fans justice
His husband David Furnish, 59, suggested that he take a break and focus on his recovery first. That was “the right decision”. It did not cause the rock legend any “great mental agony”, but it still worried him: “The only torment I have is disappointing people.”
Elton John adds that he would have found the fans more disappointed if he had to cancel the concert series “halfway because I’m sick” or if his “hip hurts too much”.
