Elvis: the biopic on the rocker screened in preview at the Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival announced on Tuesday that the highly anticipated biopic Elvis, about the American music legend, will have its world premiere on the Croisette during its 75th edition next May.

Cast members Austin Butler as the rock ‘n’ roll legend, Olivia DeJonge as his wife Priscilla, and Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, are expected at Cannes, along with Australian director Baz Luhrmann.

The biopic traces the life and work of Elvis Presley over two decades, from his rise to fame to achieving “his unprecedented star status, while America is crossed by major socio-cultural upheavals and loses his innocence”, according to a press release from the festival, which will be held this year from May 17 to 28, and where the sequel to Top Gun: Maverick will also be unveiled.
