Netflix subscribers are spoiled for choice. Between detective series, for teenagers, criminal investigation stories and different films, there is something for everyone. Often, the American platform is interested in news items that have marked history. Recently, it’s the story of Jeffrey Dahmer which has met with great success since it has accumulated more than 500 million hours of viewing in just a few weeks. On October 20, it was a documentary entitled Emanuela Orlandi, the disappeared from the Vatican which has been posted. The documentary mini-series was directed by Mark Lewis and it is split into four parts. She traces the case of the disappearance of the 15-year-old girl. 40 years after the events, the investigation has still not been resolved. Emanuela Orlandi was the fourth in a family of five children. She lived in Vatican City where her father, Ercole Orlandi, worked in the prefecture of the Holy See. He was in charge of organizing papal audiences. Just before disappearing mysteriously, Emanuela Orlandi was taking flute lessons at the Tommaso Ludovico Da Victoria school, attached to the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music. On June 22, 1983, she had asked her older brother, Pietro, to accompany her to her class. The young man had other obligations and therefore could not keep him company. The girl was never seen again afterwards.
On June 22, 1983, Emanuela Orlandi had to go to her music class, to which she arrives late. Passionate, she is very gifted and is part of the church choir. However, that day, the girl arrives late. She explains to her teacher that she phoned one of her older sisters, Federica. Words confirmed by the main concerned who remembered a disturbing conversation. Indeed, Emanuela Orlandi had evoked a man, crossed in a green BMW. He would have stopped her and would have discussed with her, entrusting her to work for a brand of cosmetics and he would have made her an offer.that of parading for the sum of 375,000 lire (i.e. 193 euros). Worried, Federica would have asked her little sister to tell her parents about it and not to follow up on this man. An exchange that seems to upset the young girl since she asks to leave ten minutes earlier from her lesson. She finds Raffaella Monzi, one of her friends, in whom she confides about this mysterious meeting. While the two teenagers have to take the bus home, Emanuela Orlandi does not get on. A few weeks later, a policeman will reveal seeing her in a green BMW with a man. Would she have finally accepted his proposal? Where is Emanuela Orlandi?
Emanuela Orlandi: have any leads provided answers to those close to her?
For 40 years, relatives of Emanuela Orlandi have been hoping to find out what happened to her. An investigation was quickly opened and the testimonies and twists followed one another. The Vatican State, the Italian Republic, the Roman mafia, a Turkish terrorist group, and the secret services of several countries have been implicated but no leads have led to further information. The only certainty the teenager was abducted. In 2013, Pietro, the brother of the deceased, went to a mass in the small parish where Emanuela was going. Pope Francis then had a thought for her and he simply said: “Emanuela is in heaven“, thus implying that she would be dead. Surprised, Pietro would have replied that he wishes to keep hope of finding her one day. However, the pope would have repeated these few words again, without proof or explanation. Was Emanuela Orlandi killed in 1983? Has she been held somewhere all this time?
