Embrace Group has grown even more recently by getting its hands on the Western studios and licenses previously belonging to Square Enix, which has offloaded them for around 300 million dollars. And if we wait to see if Embracer will finally revive some of these cult licenses with new episodes, it seems that the group sees here above all the potential of these series for remakes and remasters.
A catalog with great potential for the group
It was to be expected, with series like Legacy of Kain who have not been entitled to new titles for years, Embracer Group seems to be playing it safe for its new catalog. The company is visibly interested in remake and remaster projects, as we discover in its latest financial statement:
” After the end of the quarter, we further strengthened our development capabilities and licensing portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain and other licenses. The announcement was very well received. We see great potential there, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spin-offs. as well as in group-wide transmedia projects. We expect the transaction to close in the July-September period. »
If Embracer clearly states that it is interested in the potential for sequels for these licenses, it highlights the fact that these licenses are also conducive to remasters, remakes and other projects that could be profitable.
