Emergencies were practiced – nationwide power failure in Styria

“In addition to testing the municipal procedures, this exercise also evaluated how information or requests for help from municipalities and districts can be transmitted to the Styrian provincial warning center in the event of widespread power failures and how these are processed. This is important in order to identify problem situations and to get help to where it is needed as far as possible,” explains Harald Eitner, head of the Civil Protection and National Defense department. “The scenario practiced in Hausmannstätten is a reference exercise. The experience gained will flow into further national planning,” says Eitner. Accordingly, representatives of other authorities, such as the Graz magistrate and the Liezen district authority, were also present as observers at the exercise. The impressions and conclusions gained from the exercise should be written down in order to make them available to other administrative authorities and emergency organizations in the form of action plans.
