The "Notruf Hafenkante" stars Rhea Harder and Matthias Schloo support the Hamburger Tafel in distributing the food.

The Berlin actress Rhea Harder (44) and her Hamburg colleague Matthias Schloo (43) get involved shortly before the Christmas break for a good cause: They supported the 110 volunteers of the Hamburger Tafel in distributing food to the needy. With fresh 8 degrees and sunshine, the two "Notruf Hafenkante" series stars (ZDF) lend a hand in the courtyard of the table.

That is why the Hamburger Tafel is so important

The TV stars gladly followed the "emergency call to pack". "I think it's great that volunteers make it possible to distribute food to those in need. That way, a few more people have a warm meal in their stomachs. I think that's very selfless and that's why I'm very happy to support the table," explains Rhea Harder.

"Organizations like the Hamburger Tafel are the kit that holds a city together. The Tafel has been working for the needy in our city for 25 years with great effort, vigor and dedication. For people who do not depend on the Tafel, is it is almost invisible, it means so much to people who depend on it, "adds Matthias Schloo. In addition, it is also a contribution to environmental protection if the resources would otherwise end up in the bin.

Fresh goods with "small blemishes"

The volunteers drive daily to "supermarkets, bakeries, discounters, weekly markets and retailers to pick up fresh goods with small blemishes that would otherwise have ended up in the garbage", explains Julia Bauer, CEO of the Hamburger Tafel, how the association gets the goods. There are also direct donations from food manufacturers such as the Italian food company Barilla.

He was "one of the first to react in the spring and donate a truckload. Now at the end of the year and with the renewed lockdown, Barilla has doubled the donation again and sent two whole trucks," said those in charge of the association happily about the noodle – and pasta sauce deliveries that add up to about "500,000 meals". But the number of people who need to be supported with food increases steadily in the Corona year.

Corona year 2020 – a year of challenges

Corona year 2020 also hit many actors hard. For Schloo it was at least a year of challenges. "For my wife and I, both freelancers in the artistic field, this time was and is characterized by great uncertainty and questions. Even if we were still able to earn some money, nothing is certain on days like these. This uncertainty does not affect the children transferred is probably the biggest challenge, "he says.

With Rhea Harder, the children were also the focus. "My worst and at the same time most beautiful Corona experience is homeschooling … You have so much time with the kids and enjoy learning together until math is on the agenda … Fortunately, my husband can do it," laughs the actress.

Christmas in Corona times

This year everything is different and the two actors' Christmas parties are no exception. "The four of us celebrate with a computer that connects us with our families via Facetime, at least to say hello and wish you a Merry Christmas," reveals Matthias Schloo, who lives with his wife and two sons in Hamburg. His serial colleague Rhea Harder also celebrates differently than usual. "Just us in a very small circle under our first Christmas tree together. Otherwise we were always with grandma and grandpa," says the Hamburg native.

Since the first episode in 2007, Rhea Harder can be seen as the policewoman Franziska "Franzi" Jung in the popular TV series. Matthias Schloo joined Mattes Seeler as a police officer in 2009.
