DECRYPTION – Car manufacturers want to make their thermal know-how last and are betting on promising countries.
Stellantis is developing a third engine to give more potential to its rocket. Until now, the automaker was powered by two reactors: that of Fiat Chrysler in the United States, and that of PSA, in Europe. By 2030, the group will rely on a third group made up of promising continents and countries. Carlos Tavares calls him the “overseas club”. It includes the Middle East and Africa, South America, India, Asia-Pacific, and even China. From regions of the world to very different automotive markets: in the Gulf countries, customers are crazy about high-end pick-ups. In India as well as in Indonesia, they are looking for cheap vehicles. So why group them together in the same family? “The objective for Stellantis is to protect itself from the economic cycles that punctuate the United States and Europe and to avoid being dependent on one or the other”explains an executive of the group to the 14 brands.
