Emile Louis, Guy George… Christophe Hondelatte reveals the tragic secret behind the names of the greatest criminals

Christophe Hondelatte may have left the presentation of Let the accused enterthe news item star still has a lot to teach us about sordid little French stories… In October 2021, the journalist was the guest of Daily on the occasion of the release of the film barbecue by Fabrice Éboué, in which he made an appearance. And while it was a question of the name of the two criminals of the film, namely Vincent Pascal (Fabrice Éboué) and Sophie Pascal (Marina Foïs), Christophe Hondelatte has answered a question often raised in the world of news items: why do criminals often have a first name as a surname?

He indeed explained the double first name of the criminals by their often stormy past in the corridors of the Ddass (departmental directorate of health and social affairs). “It’s not a funny subject. Most of these people are children of the Ddass who have therefore been called, in general, by their middle name, explains the journalist, before giving a concrete example: Guy Georges is called Guy Rampillon. When he is abandoned by his mother and the abandonment is recognized by the Ddass, we take his middle name, which is Georges, and we call him Guy Georges.”

Born October 15, 1962, the serial killer Guy Georges was disowned and abandoned by his mother in his early childhood before being entrusted to the DDASS on May 9, 1963. A fate that Émile Louis also experienced, supported by public assistance from the first days of his life. Both were later adopted by foster families.
