The mother of dragons has created a comic in which a single mother becomes a superhero: “Mother of Madness”.

Emilia Clarke (34) will soon publish her own comic book. The “Game of Thrones” actress shows a completely new talent of herself. In a recent interview, she explains what her inspiration was. Clarke was modeled on single mothers, as she explains “Variety”. Her comic was “born out of the idea that single mothers are superheroes. You need superhuman strength to do that. When you’re in your 30s and your friends are having kids, you realize, ‘Oh my god. I didn’t realize what it takes. Holy shit. ‘”

Clarke developed the comic two years in the past few years, as she previously revealed on Instagram. This is called “Mother of Madness”, or “MOM” for short and revolves around a single mother named Maya who becomes a superhero. “She’s funny, she’s wild, and she’s just a normal woman trying to fix her life. But with the help of some helpful female skills …” Clarke teases.

There was a sign on her comic shop: “Girls forbidden”

On the other hand, it was clear to Clarke as a young girl that the comics scene is predominantly male. In a comic book shop in London there was even a sign: “Girls forbidden.” So she could only read her older brother’s comics. Even today, little has changed, as she reports. According to their research, only 16 percent of comic book makers are female and only 30 percent of comic book characters are women. “All of these things told me to do my own,” she concluded.

With her comic, she also wants to shake the public perception of single mothers and break taboos – such as on the subject of menstruation. So Maya’s period evolves into one of her superhero powers in the comic: “What if we turn that around and make the period something that we can feel as this unique, crazy, superhuman thing that happens in our body? When Maya is scared she becomes invisible, when she is angry she has superhuman powers, “explains Clarke. But Maya also needs her time before she realizes it: “At first she’s so ashamed of her strength. It’s crazy. Even today it’s embarrassing when the tampon falls out of her pocket. Why?” Asks Clarke .

An own Instagram account with first insights into the world of the “Mother of Madness” already exists. The comic, which was created with an all-female team and is described by the publisher Image Comics as a mixture between “Deadpool” and “Fleabag”, is due to hit stores on July 21st.
