Émilie Gavois-Kahn (The Little Murders of Agatha Christie): “I never find out who the culprit is”


We saw her in Les Bracelets rouges and Cassandre. The actress, soon to be cast in Games of Influence on Arte and Code for France 2, bursts the screen in Les Petits Meurtres by Agatha Christie as a commissioner from the 1970s, to discover from Friday April 29 on France 2.

Tonight’s plot leads us into the circles of luxury prostitution and politics. What does this episode from the 1970s say?

EMILIE GAVOIS-KAHN: We reflect on the condition of women at that time. We realize the work that remained to be done, even if a lot had already been accomplished. And we say to ourselves: “Ah yes, we were there, anyway!” But it’s not a documentary about the 1970s. It’s fiction, and there’s joy!

Is it a source of pride for you to play Commissioner Annie Gréco, a strong woman?

We don’t know if it’s because she’s strong that she got to that position, or if it’s her function that makes her strong. The intrigues take place in 1972, and the first female commissioner was appointed in 1977. It is therefore as if we were giving her a chance, as if she were in the hot seat. With her, we try something!

Beretta (Arthur Dupont), her partner, isn’t he a little annoying, according to her?

No, he’s like her: in the hot seat. Pink, the psychologist, too. Both are in his team, that of those who have something to prove.

The success of the series is it not due to the solid construction of the intrigues of Agatha Christie?

Yes there is a side Cluedo. When I read the screenplays, I never find out who the culprit is… And then there’s a lot of work, upstream, from the authors, so that we don’t change a comma in the text on set. Sophie Revil, the producer, moreover, obtained from Agatha Christie’s heirs the possibility of creating original stories. There is no longer the obligation to draw inspiration from novels already published.

Have you had role models who have inspired you in your career?

There are of course great actresses that we like to watch, but once we’re on set, it’s up to us to go! For my character Little Murders, I was asked to look at what had been done Annie Girardot in Tender Chicken.This is the starting point that allowed us to work.

When you had to leave Cassandra, France 3 series, Gwendoline Hamon sent you a nice message. Are you close?

She’s a true friend, and a wonderful comrade at work. She is anything but lonely. Cassandra is a team effort, and it is what brings us together.
