Emilio Sakraya: Why the corona crisis is an opportunity for him as a newcomer

Emilio Sakraya (23) is known to many primarily as an actor, he has also been in front of the camera for the series "4 Blocks" or the film "Cold Feet". Now Sakraya is starting out as a singer under the stage name EMILIO. His new single "RAUS" can be heard in the credits of the documentary "Schw31ns7eiger: Memories – from the beginning to the legend", which has been available on Amazon Prime Video since last Friday (June 5th). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the 23-year-old tells what connects him with Bastian Schweinsteiger, why the corona crisis also offers opportunities for him as a newcomer and what he wants for the time after the crisis.

What do you associate with Bastian Schweinsteiger?

EMILIO: I associate a lot with Bastian! First of all the victory of the World Cup, of course, but above all fighting spirit, hard work and willpower. I don't know him personally, but I think he's a strong leader and he's an athletic role model.

How happy were you to be part of the soundtrack?

EMILIO: When Til Schweiger asked me if I wanted to write a song for the film, it was a special moment. "RAUS" is about motivating and pushing yourself, not being satisfied with second place, but always getting the best out of it. I hope that the song and the film will motivate many people to outgrow themselves and not to give up.

Are you a football fan yourself?

EMILIO: I myself am an enthusiastic athlete and love the challenge. But I wouldn't call myself a football fan.

Is it particularly difficult for you as a newcomer to gain a foothold in the music industry during the corona virus pandemic?

EMILIO: On the contrary! I just have more time to deal more intensively with the music that I want to make. And the listeners are also more at home now and simply listen to more intense music. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. You have to be satisfied with your output yourself, then he will also find his listeners.

What does the current corona crisis mean for you as a musician and actor?

EMILIO: Sure there are a lot of people who have concerns and that is totally justified. It is an exceptional situation right now. Basically, I approach situations like this: What I cannot change must not negatively affect me – rethink and make the best of it!

How are you currently using your new time?

EMILIO: Since I usually travel a lot, I use the time with my family and above all with myself. Starting new things that you always wanted to do, such as learning more languages, training dancing, studying new instruments and so on.

You have been in front of the camera since you were nine. Was that a dream of yours as a child?

EMILIO: I never had anything else in mind than to be in front of the camera. For me, acting is my calling and my dream that has become a reality.

Which actor or actress would you like to work with?

EMILIO: To be honest, I find the thought of what roles I would like to slip into much more exciting. Here I am particularly interested in characters who are far away from me. I love throwing myself into a role and also having to change myself visually, for example by losing and gaining weight, learning new skills such as riding, sign language or certain dance or sports.

Do you want to pursue music alongside your acting career or just concentrate on one thing in the future?

EMILIO: Basically, I always focus on what I'm doing, right. There is nothing I more or less prefer to do. Everything I do, I do 100 percent!

Her songs are often about love. Do you believe in one great love?

EMILIO: Yes! And eventually she finds one.

What are your wishes for the time after the crisis?

EMILIO: I would generally like to see more appreciation for each other. Not everything should be taken for granted.
