“Emily in Paris”: will you fall for season 2 like us?

When asked what is her favorite French word, Lily Collins responds without hesitation. “Candy! It’s so repetitive but so cute”, she emphasizes. An almost perfect definition of the series that made her a world star. An imperfect sweetness that we were nevertheless delighted to taste. To multiply the clichés, Emily in Paris alienated some of the public when it arrived on Netflix last year. Without being shunned by the spectators who were 58 million to revel in the French adventures of this dapper American the first month of its publication.

As much praised as shouted, Emily in Paris had a lot to do for its second season. Is the postcard vision of the French capital still there? Yes of course. But this Parisian fantasy is part of the DNA of the program, which never claimed to document what was really playing out in the city. The American even carries her gaze with an integrated Instagram filter to the Côte d’Azur, where she lands in the first episodes. The life she leads in Saint-Tropez is certainly more glamorous than those of the heroes of Under the sun but no more credible. And we have not seen the crowds revolt against the heroes of TF1.

Season 2 nevertheless seems to correct everything it was criticized for. Emily, who was making no effort to immerse herself in her new surroundings, this time doing everything to acclimatize. The beret is no longer the only accessory so French, the language of Molière invites itself more and more into the dialogues. It was time ! The heroine assiduously follows her French lessons where she meets a mysterious young man who will seriously upset her and overshadow the handsome Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).

Emily gains in authenticity in contact with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), a key character who hates Paris as much as she is a fan of it. And who could therefore only be British. “Did you say cliché?”, some will say. For our part, we loved the new dynamic instilled by this Englishman with the devastating smile. If poor Mindy (Ashley Park) is reduced to her singing activity, the fabulous Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) is gaining in depth. It is she, the real star of this season 2 that she directs as effectively as her communication box.

The looks are always more exuberant than the others. And the production always has a knack for finding grandiose filming locations, even going to settle in the Palace of Versailles for the time of a parade. Feast for the eyes, comfort for the mind … The guilty pleasure that was Emily in Paris becomes a pleasure fully assumed over these ten new tasty episodes. The proof, we could not help but chain them, until this new final cliffhanger … Suffice to say that we are impatiently waiting for Netflix to renew the series for a third season.
