ISTANBUL, June 6 (Reuters) – Emirates Chairman Tim Clark said on Tuesday the airline could order more Airbus A350s and Boeing 777Xs or 787s as the Dubai-based carrier assesses demand for up to ‘in 2040.
“We are considering both more A350s, more 777-9s and possibly the 787 range,” Tim Clark told reporters on the sidelines of a global airline meeting.
He declined to specify the number of long-haul aircraft affected.
“All I can say is that we are looking at buying a number of additional devices,” he said.
The Boeing 777X is a planned model of two large twin-engine aircraft, comprising the 400-seat 777-9 and the smaller 777-8.
Its entry into service was delayed for several years due to certification and engine development issues.
Emirates has reduced its order for 150 Boeing 777Xs to 126 aircraft, following the signing in 2019 of an agreement including an order for 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Speaking in Istanbul, Tim Clark said he was “perhaps a little more confident” in Boeing’s ability to produce the new plane, adding that he expected to receive the first copy in the last quarter of 2025.
