(Boursier.com) — The boss of Emirates is counting on the new management of Boeing to put things in order. With the “delay we are seeing, I don’t think we are satisfied,” Emirates CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum told ‘Bloomberg’ about the 777X, of which he is the main customer. “Management has promised to change things and make things happen faster – I hope so.” Speaking in an interview in Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed said he had recently met with Boeing executives, adding that the aircraft manufacturer’s management would be well advised to “keep any promises”.
Emirates is among Boeing and Airbus’ biggest customers, having built its massive fleet of long-haul planes around both companies’ products. The airline recently ordered more Boeing 777X aircraft, whose entry into service was delayed until the middle of next year due to certification issues. As a result, the carrier is upgrading the interiors of older planes to extend their lifespan.
In the midst of a crisis since the near-catastrophic accident that occurred on an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 in early January, Boeing has been facing a new case since yesterday. The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into potential incomplete inspections on the long-haul airliner. A review found that “multiple individuals” failed to perform required tests when attaching the wing to the plane’s body, but recorded that work as complete, according to Boeing, which notified the regulator. The FAA will thus seek to determine whether employees of the company could have “falsified the plane’s records”. The agency requested that “at the same time, Boeing re-inspect all 787s still in production and must also create a plan to care for the in-service fleet.”
