For the last four weeks, Emma Heming-Willis, 46, has been feeling between happiness and sadness. The wife of former action star Bruce Willis, 69, who suffers from dementia, celebrated her birthday month. It was her husband’s express wish. But she has to do without the love of her life again and again – even on important holidays such as the graduation of their daughter Mabel, 12, from primary school. A “tough” matter for Emma. But she is trying to stay strong. This is especially evident in her latest Instagram post.

Emma Heming-Willis celebrates her birthday month – and shares a rare snapshot with Bruce Willis

Emma Heming-Willis has four weeks of partying behind her. Her heart is full and yet sometimes heavy. A video plays private party moments with family and friends. Emma drinks wine with her mother Zorina Heming, rides roller coasters with her daughters Mabel and Evelyn, 10, or enjoys dinner with people like handbag designer Allison Burns Cooper. A rare snapshot with husband Bruce Willis is also among the photos. In it, the former Hollywood star and his second wife come very close, their noses bumping, they exchange loving glances. A touching moment.

Emma Heming-Willis writes: “Bruce would call it my ‘birthday month’. So we must celebrate! I am blessed and grateful to have family and friends (in this video and further afield) who have made this month so special for me.”

Emma’s life is “definitely very lonely”

In March 2023, Emma confessed during an Instagram Live discussion with dementia specialist Teepa Snow that her life is “definitely very lonely.” Bruce Willis’ symptoms and complaints continue to worsen, making it harder for him to attend family events.

And so his first wife Demi Moore, 61, came to the aid of his current love Emma and attended her daughter Mabel’s primary school graduation. She also took her two daughters Scout, 32, and Tallulah Willis, 30, with her. It shows that the patchwork clan stands close together – especially in difficult times.

Bruce Willis will be diagnosed with dementia in February 2023

And so the Willis-Heming women first made his aphasia diagnosis public in a joint Instagram post in March 2022. Almost a year later, they had the sad certainty: Bruce Willis was suffering from dementia.

In another joint statement on the website of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, the family of the “Armageddon” star announced in February 2023 that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, also known as FTD.

Emma admits: “Holidays are hard. Anniversaries are hard”

Since then, wife Emma and daughter Tallulah in particular have been giving updates on the health of the former acting star, who had to end his career due to his illness. It was only in December 2023 that Emma also revealed on Instagram how challenging it is to celebrate anniversaries with her husband. “Holidays are hard. Anniversaries are hard,” she explained, but at the same time emphasized: “My love and admiration for him grows and grows.”
