While on March 15, 2020, abstention during the first round of municipal elections had already reached record figures, totaling more than 55%, the ballot of Sunday, June 28, 2020 smashed the abstention records during an election in France under the Fifth Republic. At 8 p.m., it was almost 60% according to projections Harris Interactive-Epoka for LCI and TF1. Specialists justify this record figure by the time between the two turns due to the confinement imposed to fight the coronavirus epidemic and the campaign disrupted by social distancing measures.
